Dance and Sound Collide in “Loud Silence” Performance at Dresden’s Projekttheater

This Saturday, the Projekttheater in Dresden will host a unique fusion of dance and sound. As part of the OFF EUROPA Festival, dancer Fine Kwiatkowski will present her performance “Loud Silence,” an improvised dance and music piece accompanied by experimental musicians Willehad Grafenhorst, Gandolfo Pagano, and Fabrizio Spera.

Kwiatkowski’s movement unfolds spontaneously in dialogue with live music, creating a dynamic interplay of motion and sound. The result is an evolving performance that balances harmony with tension, offering the audience both unity and striking contrast.

The music will be performed by the project Mondolettosottoilcorvo, featuring Willehad Grafenhorst on bass and electronics, Gandolfo Pagano on guitar and electronics, and Fabrizio Spera on drums.

The official event description paints an evocative scene: “Sounds push against walls, a body encounters light. Music and dance engage with the spatial environment, entering into a conversation full of nuance. At the heart of the performance lies improvisation. What makes it unique is the equal footing given to all elements. Silence meets uproar—or the other way around—as a crackling energy moves through the space. Movements reveal secrets and emotional undercurrents alike.”

Fine Kwiatkowski & Mondolettosottoilcorvo

Fine Kwiatkowski emerged as a prominent figure in the free performance and art scene of East Germany in the early 1980s. A dancer and choreographer, she developed a personal movement language that blends elements of improvisation and contemporary expression. Over the decades, she has collaborated with artists across various disciplines, including visual arts, film, acting, and improvised music, resulting in numerous performance projects and stage productions.

Mondolettosottoilcorvo is a collaborative project initiated by Willehad Grafenhorst and guitarist Gandolfo Pagano. Grafenhorst is best known for his work on dance-video-music performances, particularly in his duo “cri du coeur” with Kwiatkowski. His experimental compositions often incorporate digitally altered instruments such as bass guitar, contrabass balalaika, and Hawaiian guitar, creating immersive soundscapes that challenge conventional boundaries.
