A Message Shared With The See Chicago Dance Community By Michael McStraw, President
April 15, 2019
On behalf of the See Chicago Dance Board of Directors, I am delighted to announce that, effective immediately, Surinder Martignetti is serving as Interim Executive Director for the organization.
This fantastic news will allow for a seamless transition and significant overlap time for Surinder to take the reins as Heather Hartley steps down as current executive director on May 10, 2019. Surinder has deep knowledge of the Chicago dance field and has served as part of the SCD staff in various program management capacities since 2013, most recently as Community Engagement Consultant. She has managed and curated multiple SCD programs, including Chicago Dance Month and Moving Dialogs.

Surinder’s employment brings a wealth of value and continuity to our marketing and dance advocacy efforts. Her previous career highlights include the Chicago Dancing Festival, where she served as interim executive director, and manager of performance programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago for six years. Originally from Lawrence, a small coastal town in southeast Australia, Surinder holds a BA in dance and theater and a Graduate Diploma in Education from University of Western Sydney Nepean. In addition, she holds a master’s degree in arts, entertainment, and media management from Columbia College Chicago. Prior to her life as an arts administrator, Surinder enjoyed a career as a dancer, choreographer, and artistic director.
The SCD Board of Directors will launch a national search this spring to hire a permanent executive director, and a committee comprising SCD Board members, artistic leaders, and community stakeholders will oversee the process.
