Psy’s Gangnam Style Music Video Dances Its Way To 2 Billion Views

“Psy – Gangnam Style”

As Neha Prakash pointed out, Psy’s “Gangnam Style” YouTube video is just a few days away from claiming 2 billion views. This is a new record with the closest competitor, Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” barely past the 1 billion mark!

“Gangnam Style” is not only a landmark achievement for Psy but a huge step forward for K-pop and related dance styles.

While South Korea’s sometimes conservative aesthetics seem to have held it back in the international film scene, K-pop’s solution has been to create upbeat candy-coated pop music for an always happy world.

Psy’s breakthrough is to bring a more human approach to K-pop. He dances but not like a pro. And he has an accessible personality that allowed him to get away with being rude in “Gentleman” which has also become a break-out hit.

Here’s to 2 billion!
