Happy: Most Played Song On Radio, Meet Pharrell’s Backup Dancers

Pharrell Williams’ song Happy has become a participatory dance phenomenon based on a 24 hour series of videos with all sorts of people dancing around the world.

The above video is the official 4 minute music video with dancers who appear at various points in the 24 hour version.

Many took Happy as an invitation to make their own video and now YouTube is full of such contributions.

Happy is now the most played song on U.S. radio for 2014 and 24 Hours of Happy recently won a major marketing award.

Clyde F. Smith

DanceLand founder Clyde F. Smith has a BFA and MA in Dance from UNC-Greensboro and a PhD in Cultural Studies from The Ohio State University. In addition to staging his own works, Clyde performed with NC's New Performing Dance Company and San Francisco's The High Risk Group. Clyde returned to performing in 2015 with an improvisational project called Working Sessions.
