That Girl’s Just Gotta Be Kissed/Broken Dolls: Full Dances From Dance Moms

“Dance Moms: Full Dance: That Girl’s Just Gotta Be Kissed”

I should make one thing clear before I write any more about Dance Moms or the related dance competition community. I don’t watch the show on tv and I usually just check out the dances on YouTube.

Plus this is probably the area of dance I know the least about but I’m very interested in understanding the phenomenon so forgive me if I don’t always fully understand what I’m seeing.

For instance, I know there are different categories for competitive dance but I don’t know the rules. So when I see these dances that aren’t the high powered, extreme technique group dances I now associate with Dance Moms, I don’t know for sure why they’re different.

For example, the duet above struck me as having a bit less of the competitive earmarks and a bit more of a Broadway routine. But that could be the category.

The dance below surprised me because it put the technical limitations of these dancers on full view. I’ve seen amazing stuff on this show and some beautiful technique but this dance looks awkward and legs that should be straight were not (for some obvious criticisms).

Of course on these shows sometimes they put the kids in weird situations to stress them out and get some drama for that week’s episode so maybe that’s what the awkward ballet below was about.

Then again, maybe it’s just ballerina costumes on a competition dance? Still not such a good look for these hard working young ladies who I’m sure are doing the very best they can.
