Drikybot: Dancing With Robots

“Drikybot mix dance and robotics”

Audrick FAUSTA recently contacted me about his Drikybot project involving robotics and dance. In fact, he inspired today’s focus on Dance Tech & Games.

Most of his videos I’ve seen feature the NAO Robot which has a big following and is not a bad dancer!

In the video above you can see FAUSTA in what would be a fairly standard street dance staging if not for the robots which are part of the act. You can see a live show below to the same song but further along in the development of the relationship with the robots.

There’s something about what FAUSTA’s doing that reminds me of a scene at the end of one of the Terminator movies where the young John Conner is playing a game of some sort with the reprogrammed terminator unit in friendly mode. Something about finding a way to be with robots rather than simply programming them.

Clyde F. Smith

DanceLand founder Clyde F. Smith has a BFA and MA in Dance from UNC-Greensboro and a PhD in Cultural Studies from The Ohio State University. In addition to staging his own works, Clyde performed with NC's New Performing Dance Company and San Francisco's The High Risk Group. Clyde returned to performing in 2015 with an improvisational project called Working Sessions.
