(Chicago) – Dance for Life, which mobilizes Chicago’s dance community by raising funds through dance, shifts its festive gala reception to a post-show celebration this year. The party takes place August 17 at the Hilton Chicago, 720 S. Michigan Ave., following the 28th annual Dance for Life Chicago performance at the Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Ida B. Wells Drive.

“We decided to move the party to follow the performance because we wanted the dancers to be able to join us,” explained Co-Chair Mark Ferguson Gomez. “This way, everyone can celebrate the evening together, artists and patrons alike, and have a great time,” said Co-Chair Tom Ferguson Gomez.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. at the Auditorium Theatre with the Dance for Life performance, featuring Partner Dance Companies Giordano Dance Chicago, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and The Joffrey Ballet, joined this year by Chicago Dance Crash, Chicago Human Rhythm Project and Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater. The concert features a “first look” at a work in tribute to late dancer, choreographer and instructor Claire Bataille, choreographed by Robyn Mineko Williams and performed by Robyn Mineko Williams and Artists, and concludes with a finale choreographed by Randy Duncan, featuring dancers from the Chicago area. Immediately following the performance, guests proceed to the Hilton Chicago for a gala reception with “Summer Bites.”

The Dancers’ Fund now offers assistance in, but is not limited to, health matters, housing, utilities, insurance, medication and travel. As a unifier of Chicago’s dance community, Dance for Life supports a thriving dance community by focusing on its health and well-being through the Dancers’ Fund.
